The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been redesigned for this model year, and it's stronger and better equipped than ever. The vehicle boasts a new frame, updated trim levels, and modernized powertrains. This midsize pickup now offers an even more compelling blend of power and efficiency, making it a competitive option for drivers who want a new job site workhorse or a versatile daily driver.
In order to help you decide which version of this redesigned truck is right for you, the Toyota of Marin team has composed this in-depth article.
The new Toyota Tacoma has a pair of brand-new engines available for drivers to choose from. The entry-level setup is a 2.4-liter i-FORCE turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which can be had with three different levels of tuning. The options are:
Many of the trims are available with at least two of these engine options, and some can also be had with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine. It pairs a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid battery-and-motor setup to provide 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.
As of this writing in February 2024, the EPA has yet to release its official estimates for the fuel efficiency of the new Toyota Tacoma truck. That said, we do have estimates from Toyota automakers that we can share to give you an idea of the fuel efficiency ratings for this new vehicle.
Due to the wide variety of engine and drivetrain combinations available since the 2024 Toyota Tacoma redesign, we will not share a comprehensive list of gas mileage estimates. Instead, we have some examples:
While these Toyota Tacoma MPG ratings vary a bit by engine, trim, and drivetrain, they are consistently competitive for midsize trucks. You'll enjoy savings at the pump in addition to the rugged capability of a new Toyota Tacoma.
Toyota designers have also shared the 2024 Toyota Tacoma payload and towing capacities for i-FORCE models. The new Toyota Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 pounds when properly equipped and has a maximum payload rating of 1,705 pounds. The SR models have a maximum towing capacity of just 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, but every other version can handle more than 6,000 pounds when properly equipped.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is available in eight trim levels. When one considers these choices alongside different bed sizes, the Toyota Tacoma hybrid engine option, and 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, the possibilities for your customized Toyota Tacoma become clear. To top it all off, you can replace the standard automatic transmission with a Toyota Tacoma manual transmission with stall-avoidance technology.
The eight trim levels are:
All of these trims offer excellent value to motorists who appreciate strength, style, and rugged capability. The TRD Sport model, for example, features a sport-tuned suspension, twin-lube shocks, and access to nine exterior color choices (more on that below). This trim, like many of the others, is quite customizable: you can swap out the standard engine for the i-FORCE MAX setup, and the baseline automatic transmission can be replaced with the manual option.
The Trailhunter trim is brand-new to the 2024 Toyota Tacoma lineup. As of this writing, it is not yet available. This model comes standard with the 326-horsepower i-FORCE MAX engine, frame-mounted rock rails, 18-inch Trailhunter-exclusive wheels, and a high-clearance front bumper.
The vehicle also boasts Old Man Emu 2.5-inch forged monotube position-sensitive shocks with rear remote reservoirs and recovery hooks in its steel bumper. This rugged model is designed to venture far off the beaten path – and look great doing it.
The top-of-the-line option for the redesigned Toyota Tacoma is the TRD Pro model. It features the i-FORCE MAX engine, 2.5-inch FOXâ„¢ Internal Bypass QS3 shocks with rear remote reservoirs, and IsoDynamic performance front seats with a dampening system. Like the last trim, it is not available as of this writing. However, when it does arrive, you'll sit high above other vehicles on the road in this ultimate version of the new Toyota Tacoma.
Some drivers will find themselves interested in the new Toyota Tacoma but wary of purchasing a vehicle outright. Leasing an automobile helps you minimize long-term maintenance expenses and keep up with the latest in automotive technology. Our team can talk to you about the relative benefits of our Toyota Tacoma lease and finance deals if this sounds appealing.
You'll find 13 color options across the eight trims of the new Toyota Tacoma. No one trim has access to all of them, so please reach out to our friendly staff here at Toyota of Marin if you have questions about specific trim and color matchups. Three of these color options pair black roofs and accents with another hue; the other ten are traditional exterior paint jobs.
You can choose from:
These paint options run the gamut from subdued hues, such as Underground, to stark choices that stand out on the highway, like Solar Octane. There's an option for everyone in the extensive lineup of 2024 Toyota Tacoma colors.
When picking out a new Toyota Tacoma, you have to decide between the XtraCab and the DoubleCab. We'll discuss their dimensions in depth below. The former has seating for two, while the latter offers five spots. Once you've made this all-important choice, you can start to consider what each trim has to offer in the Toyota Tacoma cabin.
The vehicle comes standard with two USB-C charging ports, a Smart Key System on the driver's door, and a push-button start. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma also comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which will be detailed below. As we move up through the available trim levels, we find more and more compelling features.
The mid-level Toyota Tacoma PreRunner comes standard with a leather-trimmed steering wheel with infotainment controls, automatic climate control with air filtration, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. It also has 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, underbody fuel tank protection, and a leaf-spring rear suspension.
Opting for a Limited model offers even more impressive features. You'll enjoy SofTex-trimmed power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a powered moonroof, Qi wireless charging, a Head-Up Display, and Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) includes a wide array of safety technologies that work hard to try to safeguard you and your passengers. TSS 3.0 includes:
These technologies make your life easier – and more safe. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist can prevent the worst if you start to stray from your space on the highway. The Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control feature is able to make driving less stressful by automatically adjusting your speed when in use. Please visit us at Toyota of Marin to take a look at the full range of Toyota Tacoma safety features.
The new Toyota Tacoma ranges from 213 to 226.2 inches long (depending on bed and cabin selections). It is either 76.9 inches or 77.9 inches wide, depending on the tires and wheels on your vehicle. The height varies based on the same criteria, ranging from 73.8 inches to 74.7 inches. These measurements provide copious space in the 2024 Toyota Tacoma interior.
Models with the two-seat XtraCab setup have 39.7 inches of headroom, 58.3 inches of shoulder room, 56.8 inches of hip room, and 41.8 inches of legroom. These spacious dimensions allow you to stretch out during short jaunts and cross-country trips alike.
The DoubleCab models' measurements depend on whether or not it has a moonroof. Models without this feature offer 39.7 inches of front headroom, 41.8 inches of front legroom, 58.3 inches of front shoulder room, and 56.8 inches of front hip room. In the second row, they have 38.4 inches of headroom, 33.7 inches of legroom, 57.8 inches of shoulder room, and 56.3 inches of hip room.
Opting for a 2024 Toyota Tacoma with a moonroof changes the front headroom measurement to 38 inches. Otherwise, the vehicle offers the same measurements as moonroof-less versions of the truck.
XtraCab models can have significantly more bed space than DoubleCab models. This makes sense, of course – DoubleCab models trade bed space for three extra seats unless they are equipped with the long bed. The Toyota Tacoma XtraCab bed has a 73.5-inch interior length, 20.2-inch interior bed depth, and 53-inch interior bed width.
Toyota Tacoma DoubleCab trucks with the short bed have a 60.3-inch interior bed length, a 21.2-inch interior bed depth (on 4x4 models; 4x2 versions have a 20.2-inch interior bed depth), and a 53-inch interior bed width. If you opt for the Double Cab and the long bed, it has the same 73.5-inch interior bed length as the XtraCab models.
As of this writing, you can purchase some versions of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. Every trim except the Trailhunter and TRD Pro are available, but they can only be had with the non-hybrid engine. In a sense, then, the Toyota Tacoma release date has already come and gone. In another, it's still forthcoming. So far, we know that the hybrid models are coming soon. Please contact us if you want to place a Toyota Tacoma pre-order for one of the i-FORCE MAX iterations of the truck.
When you buy a 2024 Toyota Tacoma, you'll enjoy excellent warranty coverage. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma warranty coverage also includes Toyota Care. This program offers two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, of Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance.3 It also includes 24/7 Roadside Assistance for the duration of the program.3 Please reach out to our friendly Toyota of Marin dealership team with any questions about this coverage.
