Is it just Toyota Marin or do vehicles seem to get smarter and smarter every day? Already, automobiles have the ability to warn you of safety hazards, connect you to the internet, and help you navigate unfamiliar territory. With such innovative features currently available across most all makes and models, it's hard to imagine how cars could get any more intelligent. According to Toyota however, they can.
Recently, the automaker announced that within the next six years new Toyota vehicles will be able to sense your mood. Thanks to a groundbreaking new technology in the works, Toyota models will have the intelligence to determine whether a driver is angry, flustered, distracted, sleepy, and more.
Now, Toyota Marin knows what you're probably thinking. How can my Toyota Camry detect my mood when sometimes I'm not even aware of it myself? At this point in time, the mood-sensing Toyota technology is still in its infant stage. However, company officials say the savvy system works by using sensors that take readings from 238 separate points on the driver's face. The program then analyzes the face and recognizes emotions as well as determines what the driver is currently doing.
Most obviously, the main benefit of mood-sensing technology comes in the form of advanced safety. For example, an angry driver could be quickly alerted of potential hazards such as street-crossing pedestrians or a driver looking to the left could be warned of an on-coming vehicle to the right. Of course, such a system could help Toyota vehicles conserve energy as well. For instance, the technology could dim the lights on display/navigation screens when the driver is not using them.
As you can see, the scope of the automaker's potential is extremely vast.
